    Mount Washington current conditions

    -------------
Summary of the current trail report at http://mountwashington.ca/conditions/default.cfm?page=trail_report

Monster Mile closed, three hits at the very bottom of Big Brother closed, bottom section of most trails open - SNS, HA, H, HS, MMT.
    -------------

With the nice weather today and forecast for the next few days it should dry up the park quite a bit. I wanted to make it up for a few runs this afternoon but because MM is closed, I will probably have to wait until Sunday afternoon.

If anyone is up before Sunday, please post here and let us know if the park is drying up nicely. Thanks.

I couldn't resist heading up for a few runs on Wednesday. Conditions were definitely better than opening day but there are still a few brutal mud pits on Big Brother. Wizard seemed almost as bad as opening day because from the end of the swamp boardwalk to the opening where the wall ride is a total river now that the snow at the top is melting fast.

The bright spots were Monster Hawk Connector and the Alien Finger drop. MHC is nice and dry and fun. The only annoying thing is that your have to pound down from the Hawk on the fire road to get to MM which gets you to MHC. The bottom of MMT and Hustler once you get out of the first treed section are pretty dry too.

After about 5 runs my chain broke just before I was loading on the chair so my last run included 0 pedaling. In other news I went 1/2 in my attempts to launch onto the Evil Eye wall ride.

There was an error in my last post. I have since noticed that they rebuilt the birm above the final 3 hits on BB. This should make the first jump much easier to hit compared to last year.

Sunday should be really sweet, who is in?

Was up on Saturday. Conditions were pretty good. The eagle chair was closed to bikes bit you could still get over to lower monster, which was dry!

The hawk is drying out nicely. A couple of spots of muddy still but all in all pretty good considering what last weekend was. Field of mud on wizard and a bowl of soup before the evil eye wallride.

Question to anyone who might know. The new Timewarp trail is running beside MMT? And that big wooden structure above evil eye is a skill centre to practice on.

Nice work to the trail crew up there. Once the berms pack in on that new entry to the hawk chair it will wide open fast.

Tommy boy, Me and Skifreak had a bit of a debate on the slopestyle plans at http://cvmtb.com/forums/t/228.aspx

Basically he had faith that the course would get done early and I didn't. As of July 3 I was right. I will be up the mtn by 5pm tonight and I am pretty sure the green face will still be flat. That leaves 8 days before people start heading to Whistler for the start of Crankworx. Lets all say a prayer for Darren and Jim regarding getting these jumps built soon!

I guess we'll see what is up today - I know Darren and Jim were up on monday afternoon - so who knows what has been done this week. The heat will help dry out the runs considerably

    Re: Mount Washington current conditions

I WAS WRONG. The slopestyle building has begun. There are two nice looking extremely tight berms going R/L right after the initial drop-in. I assume they started designing it this way so you don't carry too much speed into the first stunt. Hopefully there is a ride around for light dudes with < 3 years experience  that ride heavy bikes with flat pedals. These poor riders get totally screwed when they come out of tight berms too slow and as a result end up casing gap jumps.

The conditions tonight were AMAZING. 25 degrees, more trails and stunts opened up, virtually no one else in sight, and only two wet trails! BB is so much more fun when it is dry. I attempted to hit the final 3 jumps by the Hawk today. For some reason I was only able to hit 1 and 3 good. I had trouble with 1 and 3 last year and was only able to hit 2 consistently. I went 1/1 on the EE wallride. I hope the EE wood drops are open soon. They look fun and they should only need 2 man hours work max to be totally ready to hit. Me and my buddy from Vancouver hit the 2nd wood drop up from the Hawk today but our landings were questionable. As for wet areas, The last 1/2 of the little trail that leads to BB + W is still soaked. Easily avoidable though, just head down the road. Also, MM is still wet. This is also avoidable but only if you ride on trails that everyone on these forums know are closed such as SNS. HS and the bottom of MM are fun but still tough even though they are totally dry. I think me and my buddy hit every trail today (from 5pm - 7:30pm) except MHC and W which was closed because they are replacing all the wood on the boardwalk that goes over the swamp. In other unrelated news he told me he paid $9.50 for his pass at 5:01pm. What is up with that?

I was a bit excited about reading this on the Mt. Wash website re: Hustler - Open from the top, new section at the bottom done! Once they threw that ! on the end I was like oh man maybe they built some huge smooth berms with nice dirt. Was I disappointed. Yes! Were the berms tiny? Yes! Were the top berms built of totally crappy dirt that was full of rocks. Yes! Was the last berm built of dust? Yes. Totally lame. After the slopestyle maybe they can get Jim D and some decent dirt over there to fix up those berms!

I just noticed that my post should probably have been split up by paragraph into 3 different forums: Slopestyle, Current Conditions, and Suggestion Box. Oh well too late now.

I wouldn't expect anything till at least after the Canada Cup - seems the trail crew is so focussed on the DH course they forgot about most else. Scratch and Sniff (although I found out it was closed) was in pretty good shape with only two small patches of snow.

Thanks for the report man. A few more details would have been cool but whatever.

I should be up tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully there are some other cvmtb'ers in the house.

Did you make it up on Sunday night Tom?

Cute Hawk lifty girl let me take the next chair after the trail crew up at like 7:29pm so I was the last rider down the mtn. I sat in my truck in the hawk parking lot for bit after that but there was no sign of you. I checked out the little berms but I didn't attempt the little hip jump. My hip jumping skills need SERIOUS work.

I was wrong the other day when I still thought nothing had been done but I am currently looking pretty good in my prediction of the slopestyle course not being open "long before August 4th".

Conditions were great Sunday. I got 6-7 runs in. I missed a run on the Eagle by like 30 seconds. Oh well MM is still wet near the top anyhow. There are only a few wet spots on the Hawk trails. Apparently they were working on BB on Sunday but I didn't really notice any changes.

I hope they start working on the EE stunts soon. What is supposed to be a large wooden corkscrew is still sitting there 25% built from last fall and the two drops in the woods are still taped off for some reason.

Me and The Ferg made it up tonight. Conditions were good but quite cool. MM was closed but we hit pretty much everything else except MHC. The rebuilt section at the very start of BB from the chair looks good but it is not open yet. One of our best runs was HS to 4X to closest to the chair wood drop. It was sweet. The boys worked late on the slopestyle. There is a diamond jump after the hips and also the wall rides are up.
