One of our trails recently had sections logged, and the reroute required crossing a creek, so here is one of the bridges we built today.  Ahh the smell of cedar in the morning.

Most of you are probably not that familar with the Snowden Forest here in Campbell River, but it is an extensive network of xc to tech xc trails.  Stickman is one of the more popular trails and is also part of the Campbell River 50Km Challenge which will be held the last weekend in May if any of you are interested in a serious 5 hr ride.

 

where does the race go? is it laps of Snowden or a point to point race?

The race is actually not much of a race unless you ride a fully rigid singlespeed and come from Cumberland, which is why we are calling it a "challenge".  The course consists of two 25km laps of some of the best trails Snowden has to offer.  Lots of rock features with tech climbs and descents. Of the 25km loops, only about 1.5km is not singletrack. 

I did this race (challenge) last year. Some of the best riding I have ever done. What a great course that was laid out. Look forward to it again this year.
On a side note. I now have to spend Thursday nights in Campbell River and am thinking of bringing my bike along after the time change and will need a quide for some xc!

there is a club ride thursday nite, they meet at the logging road bridge over the campbell river at 630.  You can also let me know when you want to ride and I can try to make it, but nites do not usually work for me thanks to long days in the woods.

Thanks, is that the bridge just down from the dam just when you leave town for Gold River?

Went out today and fixed a muck hole that becomes a hubdeep pit of despair in the rainy season.  The before shot is about as dry as this hole gets.

I got out with my brother a couple of weeks ago for some saddle time up in Snowden. It always amazes me at the stuff you guys call xc! I rode it on my Six and there were a couple of steep rocky descents that had me thanking Rockshox for making the Totem 2-step so I could let it out and have all 180mm up front. Of course my brother rode it on his Blur without blinking an eye. People from out of town are in for an eye opening when they enter a Campbell River XC event!

I know what you mean, sometimes I feel the XC up here is too much for my "shore" hardtail and 5" fork.   It always amazes me when the old skool xc guys rip down a tricky rock face on a 3" travel hardtail with their seat jacked way up. 

 You'll have to come for a tour of the 50km course someday.  It's definitely a sampling of some of Snowdens best trails.

 

We rode a bit of it, I can't remember the names of the trails but it was just a small loop through the actual course.

We're coming over next weekend (2/3) to have a look at the course set for the triathlon in August. We have a friend that's competing in it and she wants to have a look at the terrain since she's never ridden anywhere on the island before.

Found this boulder on a trail I built over the winter.  The trail is Beaver Fever, located in the Beaver Lodge Lands in Campbell River.

The boulder is known as Salamander Rock in honour of the poor Salamander whose home became a trail feature.

And you talk of eco-friendly building...! Looks nice though.

I like the trails in Snowden i ride it whenever i have the time.I like the signs, lots of work went into this area. I found the map very useful especially when i first started riding it.
