only use cedar for slats, and you can get away with thicker doug-fir for stringers if cedar is not available.  Remove the bark from the wood for the most rot resistance.  Build it strong, ie oversize the stringers and slats.  use enough cross braces if required.  Use around a 5" spiral nail.  pretty much the biggest nail that wont split the wood is best.  Have a look at some of universe's woodwork.

Well you said you want to build it right and you want suggestions so....

    1. Go convince your ridng buddies to donate at least $5 each to the new sweet trail you are building.
    2. Come back on here and post this:
Okay so me and my buddies scraped together $X for the ladder section now it's time for all you freeloaders who ride or take pictures(not mentioning names JBazett) on Forbidden to pay the piper. Cotty is already in for $10 so you better not cheap out(especially if you owe him money, again no names Wheeler and Ferg).
    3. Collect your money and put it in a bag labeled $Y. Don't worry I know where all those dudes live so I can help you if business is slow.
    4. Come back on here again and post this:
ATTN: UNIVERSE. Please build us a sweet ladder as soon as you can. We are meeting at the Forbidden lodge parking lot on Saturday ______ __/07. We have collected ($x + $10 + $y) for you and we will also be bringing beer. Thanks man.

I guarantee that is your best chance of building a sweet stunt in the middle of the woods.

That is pretty much how it should be all over!!!!!!

Same post, Insert different builders name and I am sure this would work.

Builders love to build, give them resources and they think they are in heaven.

But I can see it already, " I can't afford five dollars, I just bought a $4000 mountain bike, maybe next time"

Seriously I think that isn't a bad idea to be presented to any builder or group of builders. Especially on some high traffic trails. They know who rides the trails.

    cheers

Some good suggestions thanks for the input .After looking at the photos i think the wood crib and fill idea might work here,.. might need some shovel work in areas anyway .Lots to do, 2 more riders helping now. This trail will be a good one, lots of fast open rock ridge rides tecnical twistys just a few short hills to push. I like a fast rolling tecnical challenge Easy rider is one of my creations, this trail will be made for every one.

Funny Cotty, I don't ever recall seeing you with a shovel in your hands before.

Easy rider is near the end of transmission trail. If you came down monkeys challenge then took KMA trail push up to transmission first trail to the right is Cliff Ave next trail to the left is Easy rider. Not a trail for every one nice roll to it, steep you will slid on this one takes you down to the base of bics it doesnt have the water drainage problems you see on the plunge so should survive the traffic and heavy winter rains. Some dirt jumps down the road to bics would be perfect like the bottom of peckerhead future stuff maybe.

Trail update, more work done on the thick wooded area went at it with flagging tape ,machete and chain saw. A clear route now established the trail runs roughly the bottom of two sheiks to the start of the puntledge plunge. The trail has been given the name "Dirty Jane" a sign will be made and put at the top. It should be ridable later this summer.

According to http://cvmtb.com/content/forbiddenmapzoom.aspx , your new trail covers the same amount of ground as the first Monkey's section. Is it really that long?

    Re: Trail Building

looking at the map i would say the trail starts near the bottom of monkeys revenge there is a metal plate on a stump to the right a fairly steep dirt drop.I dunno the exact spot where one trail ends and the other begins. From this spot it reenters just before the drop down the plunge .This is not my trail iam only a helper. This  trail route was made by a weekly rider out there that decided to explore a new area that had potential for a good trail, it does .

MMMM Dirty Jane, nice trail. thanks for your effort, I guess the best way to repay the effort would be for me to continue the trail I'm building. I'll get back at it soon I hope.
03 Haro extreme 8.1? replaced forks with manitou X verts. the widder tires and low seat are nice for the skinnies.

    Re: Trail Building

A new Bridge was built over the creek on Dirty Jane trail saturday the 15 of september nothing real fancy but should work allright other small improvements to improve the flow and just wearing in should make this trail good for ridding this winter.
