Must be a big race day - the clouds opened up and let out a three week downpour - at least it didn't snow on the racers!

Since it's just the XC races on the weekend, the lifts should be up and running. only thing is the hawk trails will have control people at the various crossings of the xc course.

anyone know what the condition at Mt. Washington are like now?  Has it rained so hard that it's super muddy?  Worth coming up still?

I haven't been up since the bad weather hit. Someone must have been riding on Sat or Sun. How wet is it?

All four members of Team J.A. Custom  made it up on Tuesday night for some Hawk runs. MMT, H, and 4X were the dryest trails, W, EE, and HS  had some really mucky sections, BB was okay.

My buddy was up for the first time this season and it was the most disappointed I had seen him since 2005 re: Mt. Wash. I didn't ride in 2004 but he did. He retired from jumping a long time ago when he busted his shoulder up so now he likes the flowy trails and nice berms. I have to agree with him that the new berms this year get a D minus.  Most of them don't even deserve to be called berms but I don't know what else to refer to them as. Maybe super-mini-crappy-berms or SMCBs for short. According to my buddy, in 2004 they raced dual slalom on the old run from the lodge down to the Hawk. This year they flattened that old course and replaced it with a bunch of SMCBs. Lame!!!

I did two of the larger wood drops on the mtn for the first time and both landings were good.

The step-up-drop stunt at the slopestyle is super wide and beefed up this year. It appears it is going to shake down like this over the next 3 weeks or so: Course not ready -> open to pros only for practice -> competition ->  dumb-down the bigger stunts -> hopefully open to the public by Thursday Aug. 9

To be honest, it's about time they took that course out of there - an unfortunate fatal injury occurred a few seasons ago on the dual slalom track. I'm surprised it wasn't removed a long time ago.

Can you blame that course for the accident?  Couldnt it have happened on the Biker X, or anywhere else for that matter?

I've never had a problem on that course, seemed tame to me compared to most of the other stuff on the hill, imo.

it was reworked somewhat after the accident from what I remember... but still like other jumps on the hill - not always the same consistent takeoff.

I agree with flow. According to my source, the man who died was not an experienced jumper and he tapped his brakes in the air which caused him to land awkwardly. While tragic, I think it is hard to place the majority of the blame on the poorly built jumps.  As opposed to Whistler and Silverstar, there are very few jumps on Mt. Wash that are built to handle novice and intermediate riders who lack confidence in the air. Removing these jumps is NOT AN OPTION.

Getting back to current conditions; can someone please post how much the hill has dried up this week.

In other news, there is a new map at http://www.mountwashington.ca/conditions/trailreport/index.cfm and it displays most of the trails open. This includes Scratch 'n' Sniff, Crusher, and Hidden Alley. It may be worth putting in a full day now there are more options to ride off the Eagle chair.
