    Forbidden Trails Thread

    Update from March 18th

    • Yarding of logs on Branch 21 cut block - watch out for equipment on week days.
    • New trails trail from Upper Transmission down towards the Puntledge River. Nice steep rolls downhill. Needs a bit of time to wear in for good traction.
    • No sign of the cougars in the top of Rudy's region, but as always keep your eyes open.
    • Trails are in good shape still somewhat slippery on roots, but most rock faces provide good traction.
    • As snow clears, trails above branch 21 will require some clearing / chainsaw work. Watch out before you carry speed around a blind corner.

Timberwest's contractors are not currently operating but a skidder has been doing small yarding work near along the roadway below the branch 21 entrance.

    Re: Forbidden Trails Thread

Hit up a few trails tonight for an evening ride - started at 5:30 and was still bright enough to see at 8pm :)

We first tried to take Two Sheiks from the lower entrance. Approx 4-6 inches of snow still to clear there. According to a couple of riders, snow and pushing the bikes till a bit before Good Enough.

Went around the other way and hiked up to Two Pond Pass, and then up to Lumpy's. Some water on the trails, although minor. Next we headed down to and across clearing to KMA, up to Transmission, down Busted Nut, followed by Drop of Doom and out to the lake.

Trails are clear, although they can always use some love to buff them in.

With this weather, Two Sheiks should be clear quite soon.

    New trails on Forbidden

Thanks to some of the dedicated Trials riders in the valley, there are a few new trails appearing on Forbidden.

The first is Easy Rider, dropping down from Upper Transmission to Bics, the other in a similar area. Both are steep technical decents with the second being a bit more bike friendly.

More to come when they are completed.

    Two Shieks almost clear

Rode from the lower entrance tonight, about 300 feet of snow to get past before the trail and additionally another approx 1000 feet of snow in various places until after the step up and gap jumps. The step-up actually has a large amount of snow on the transition.

Overall the trails are in pretty good shape, no major damage from the winter storms like down below.

Trails should be clear of snow with a couple more good rainfalls.

Thanks for the tour last night! You gave me a great tour yesterday that just "touched" the amount of trails out there. I thought I had rode Forbidden until yesterday. There is just soooo much to explore! Woot Woot! Looking forward to your maps idea. Awesome!

Yea I hit that snow today when I went up there to get my gas can that I left there a year ago.

Who is building the skinny right at the enterance to Shieks?  Not even finished and it has a rung missing lol.  I figure I should split them some cedar rungs for it.

Got some beauty slats split up today up on Jake the Snake.  Will need to hump them up the hill to build up higher.  Maybe employ some help with that one.

4 of us headed up last night. The green gate was open so we took the mighty F-150 on the scenic tour in an attempt to drive up to Jake the Snake. We made it over halfway I think but  when we got to first big washout I chickened out so we still had like a 5 min push to get to the trail head. Next time if I have 2 people in the truck instead of 5 there will be no problem making it to JTS. Just have to make sure to avoid that huge hole where the creek goes right under the road. I should probably mark that hole next time we go up. Anyhow  if rough the road doesn't get too bad above JTS moving the wood up should not be a problem.

Well I have to go now so I guess the Red Rotors adventure with FGT, The Ferg, Cotty, and special guest star KHansen will have to be put on hold for now.

Shuttled up to 2 Sheiks, Monkey's, Plunge, Pecker yesterday.  Trails are dry, dusty and loose.  Took some newbies up there and into'd them to MBing on Forbidden.  I think they were wondering what the hell they got themselves into as a couple of us armored up.  Smiles at the end and a couple of guys who might be investing some $$$ in bikes and gear.  Kudos to the guys keeping the trails goings.
