Update Feb 18th

Well after a fall and early winter season that saw so much destruction of the local trails, a few busy souls have been out working hard to get things back in shape. A big props and lots of Karma to everyone involved.

The report is all trails are rideable with some snow on the tops of Bucket of Blood and Grub. Trail work is still needed almost anywhere with dirt and rocks to help repair winter erosion. Forbidden trails below Two Sheiks are in good shape with some snow above Rudy's.

Note for all trail users - there are very many trees and larger branches still hung up on others, which with a strong gust of wind could dislodge. Please take caution when riding during windy times and keep an eye on the lookout for danger trees.

Had a wander through the lower trails tonight. March 20th

Lower Cumberland Trails 

• Mike Hamilton Logging is doing a good job of clearing the trees away from the trails when they do their logging operations. Until the logging is completed, the following trails are recommended to avoid.
  • Black Hole
  • Soggy Biscuit
  • Matts Trail (below the link with Soggy Biscuit)
  • Upper and Lower Crafty Butcher
• Someone has been doing work on Buggered Pig, as a number of ramps have fresh expanded metal.
• Tied the Knot is pretty much a write off at the moment. Not sure if anyone wants to approach rebuilding it - otherwise it might be worth spending a few hours dismantling the unsafe structures.

Upper Cumberland Trails

• A few cold nights and a bit of frozen precip, but trails are clear at the moment. Longer nights are now providing for easy access

Trails are pretty clear but still a bit wet with all the recent precipitation.

Rode Bucket of Blood and Broadway last night.

Conditions were wet, with lots of slippery rock and roots. Very minimal amount of snow at the top, but overall trails are clear.

all those trails are clear in good conditions, sunny.

Thanks to some experienced chainsaw operators, Hai Gui one of the last trails to be cleared is now fully operational. Additionally a new bridge has been built across the river at the bottom of the DCDH course by the same crew.

Last sunday a large group headed up to dial in the DCDH course. From berms to jumps to some new drainage and other trail repairs, the course is in good shape. A bit of riding and a some small updates and it will be ready for the race in May.

Rode buggered, (whoever is building the new log ride, need to get some better nails, a few of the boards are rather loose) Bucket, Broadway and Hai Gui.

The Miners climb is brutal since ATV riders are ripping the trail completely. Would be nice if they offered to do a bit of maintenance.

Bucket was a bit wet, but overall good shape.

Hai Gui is now rideable.

Headed out tonight for an after work ride.

Rode up past Allen lake to the Trent main, Bucket of Blood, Shaker, new trail, Soggy Biscuit.

Light rain earlier today resulted in some slippery roots, but no dust.

New connector trail is in need of more work but will make for a nice addition.

The roadway exit of Bucket is now somewhat off limits. Current road building work has widened the road and current blasting is being performed. Be sure to listen for blasting signals before starting lower roadway section of Bucket and Broadway.

 Trail Days with the Trail Harvest Crew are now on Sundays at 11am at the CRI parking lot. Check with Dan at DCC, Jeremy at the Riding Fool or Hefe at Simon's for more information. New projects include the Allen Lake Project.

Well a cold wet sunday morning greeted the three people including myself, hefe and one other rain gear clad warrior. As the two of them headed off to the new trail up near Bakers Dozen, I headed off to do some drainage work on Soggy Biscuit. Next time to bring a few others for rock picking! hard to find under all the leaves.

Next weekend hopefully will offer a bit better weather.

Be sure to remember to check out the NWD 8 Premiere on Saturday night. Funds raised will go to trail building projects in Cumberland. 

Cumberland trails are nice and tacky with a few slippery or frost covered roots. A few trees are down across the start of Soggy Biscuit making for a bit of a hike-a-bike section. Lower Crafty butcher is in fun shape.

After the recent rain, much of the snow in open lower areas has disappeared. Packed areas under shade from trees is still quite packed. Overnight snowfall should make little difference.

Last report was 2+ feet at the top of Bucket of Blood, and snow all the way down to the yellow gate. Will try to update today with lower trail conditions.

Beautiful weather equals spinning gears so I rode the lower trails today on Sunday Feb. 18-08. The main road is nearly clear and completely ridable to the stream. A little snow at the trailheads which clears once in da bush.

Shaker - mostly clear but treefall at end. Hike-a-bike. A bit eroded in places

Entrails - some trees and branches down but some nice work goin on - reeespect.

Soggy Biscuit - large tree down at start (by clearcut) but mostly clear. Log ride is waaay slippery (trust the sign)

bottom of Matt's - clear

Black Hole - Clear

Space Nugget - clear but could do with some work to repair erosion.

Big Log? - Big log needs repairing. Who do I ask if I may do it?

The uncompleted new run by pumphouse looks very promising! There is also a couple of new trailheads and a note to the guys building after tree with blue markings, the first skinny logride needs better nailing as there are some very loose slats on the corner - dodgy... Much love and respect to the busy builders, may you find plenty wood and stone and may your new lines appear in the forest like gifts from the goblins.
