This old school trail remains on the lower slopes of Mount Washington, built over 15 years ago. One of the original downhill trails in the valley, most of it still stands although many of the structures are starting to return to the forest floor. Be sure to keep your eyes on the trail, as it does have a tendency to be overgrown and hard to follow at times.

Directions

This trail can be ridden on big bikes or smaller XC / All-mountain bikes. For those on larger sleds, try shuttling from either Wolf Lake main, or the parking lot at the crossroads of the Strathcona Parkway, and drop off at the Sand Shed. For XC rides, parking at the lot works well. There are new logging roads that we'll try and mark on the map soon.

Turning right at the sand shed (under removal at the moment) head down this main road for approx 1.5km. The trail does have some washout partway down, so keep your head up. Look for flagging tape on a left hand sweeping turn and take a hard right onto the old road bed. Follow this for approx 300m as it turns left and then straightens out. Keep your eyes open for wooden structures approx 50m in on the right side of the trail. it's easy to miss where the trail goes in, but once you see it, it's easy to start.

The structures are in rough shape at the moment with many of them showing their age and are starting to fall down.

Follow this trail until it drops down onto an old roadbed. Turn left and walk up approx 50m. Look to your right as the trail starts on the far side of a deep creekbed. the trail weaves its way back and forth across this creek and then takes a left turn travelling along through the forest for a bit. One last section of downhill and you're dropped onto a newer road. For now this is as far as the accessible trail goes, but once logging is finished, it is hoped that the trail can be renewed.

Follow the road bed down to the right and it will feed into a junction with the Wolf Lake main. take the lowest road on the right and follow this back to the Duncan Bay main above Wolf Lake and turn right. Depending on where you parked, you might have a few km's to pedal back to the base.
