Endless Biking and Vancouver Island

Endless Biking is a BC mountain biking success story with origins stemming from Vancouver Island. Since 2004 founder Kelli Sherbinin and her business partner Darren Butler, have created a range of camps and clinics throughout the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.

A Comox Valley connection occurs when you ask Kelli about the beginnings. A first womens only camp in partnership with The Riding Fool Hostel in Cumberland was the launching point for this business venture.

I had a chance to ask Kelli some questions recently and here's her replies.

Can you describe what Endless biking is all about?

Endless Biking is a dedicated mountain bike service company focused on skill development for youth and adults in both all mountain, downhill and cross country disciplines.  Endless Biking is owned and operated by professional riders and instructors, Darren Butler and Kelli Sherbinin. All programs are run with instructors and guides certified to the highest standards available in North America.

Endless Biking offers camps, clinics, private lessons and tours primarily on the North Shore with specialty camps growing in the following areas: Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island (Campbell River, Duncan, Cumberland, Victoria), Bowen Island, and Whistler.  EB's primary goal is to help riders build the skills and confidence to ride bikes with the success they dream of.

How long have you been in business and how long have you been coming to the island.

Endless Biking is going into it's 3rd year of operations. Owner, Kelli Sherbinin started a women's specific camp in Cumberland in conjunction with the Riding Fool Hostel in 2004. With a huge success from that camp, many other have spawned since.

What do you like best about the island

I love the forest, the trails, the people and the easy going slower paced lifestyle. :)  I am from Nelson, a small town in the BC interior, so I appreciate the smaller town atmosphere.

Who are you most interested in signing up for your clinics

We are interested in anyone who want to improve their riding from pure beginners to people who have personal goals, whether it be racing or personal.  I do believe that their is an art to mountain biking. It's like another language that we want to share with others to help them have more fun on the trail.. why not?

What are some of the programs you are running this year

We are excited to offer for the 4th year in a row, our Women's only Riding Fool Hostel Camp at the end of October.  This camp has been such a great experience, with new and returning faces showing up each year. It's a park your car and bike, learn, progress, eat good food, meet great people and enjoy a riding adventure.

Also we will be doing a second annual camp in Campbell River again this year sometime in June (date TBA soon, stay tuned to the website)

New to the Island this year are 2 camps, back to back in Duncan.  Brian from Experience Cycling club is helping to co-ordinating this event with Endless and we are very excited about it, as we have heard the riding there is amazing.   There will be 2 x one day camps, June 9 will be a Women's Only camp and June 10 will be a "Beginners Camp" open to both genders.

We are also setting up clinics for Mount Washington this year and will have some coaches work remote on the island offering Private Lessons around the Victoria Area and possibly Cumberland.  If anyone is interested in this, please contact me at: kelli@endlessbiking.com.

Who are some of the people involved in Endless Biking

The two owners, Darren Butler and Kelli Sherbinin, have been in the industry collectively for almost 30 years.  We both have racing back ground and have worked in the industry in many facets. See our bios on our website.

New to our 2007 instructors roster is Geoff Pendrall who is an island boy who just finished a business degree at UVIC and is now pursuing his passion while he continues to race the BC/Canada Cup circuit as much as he can.  We are really excited to have Geoff on board as he brings a variety of expertise to the trails, including xc / dh racing experience as well as working with youth and of course, business management skills.

Also, with us again for a 3rd year is Lasha Reid, an island girl who is so passionate about the sport and helping others.  She will be helping Endless Biking to create access to Private Lesson Programming and will be coming out to teach with us at our various Island camps as well.

Any tips or tricks you would offer up to helping riders improve.

One of the epiphanies that I have had over the past 2 years is that it's all about a riders 'Neutral Position' (keeping your wheels equally weighted with a quiet core and agile legs and arms.  Another really important tip would be in high speed cornering. Eyes, shoulders, hips, knees looking in the direction that you want to go in a corner and staying low.  Your shoulders should be over your handlebars with your chin approximately 3-6 inches above your stem and your hips low, with your seat able to move in-between your legs for counterbalancing and bike body separation. This will allow you to maintain a lower center of gravity and allow for traction on both wheels, railing the turn.

Thanks Kelli for this interview, and we look forward to seeing you this summer in the Comox Valley.
