The fine guys and gals from Ozzies Cycles in Port Alberni put on a dynamite DH race last weekend. Having rain heavily the day before race day the course was slick, muddy and in true Port Alberni fashion, Fast as hell. With a couple of new additions, the course was looking great as usual and it was obvious that the builders had put a lot of hard work into it in the off season.

With local Port Alberni riders Sky Gustin (4:14) and Kyle Johnson (4:19) taking the top two spots in the expert men category, my hat goes off to Courtenay local Simon Garstin who placed third. Simon shocked the heck out of the spectators when he blasted across the railroad tracks and got airborne while entering one of the more notorious corners on the course (A tight bermed right hander), facing the wrong way. I’m not sure who Simon paid off upstairs, but he emerged from the corner un-scathed and fast as ever.

A big thanks to all of the guys from Ozzies for a job well done! Don’t forget to grab your friends and come out to the DCDH course in Cumberland on June 3rd. Dan and the boys from the United Riders of Cumberland put on a stellar event which never fails to entertain the spectators!
