Royal LePage Snow To Surf Team Relay 2007

As the days get longer and equipment fights for weekly use, thoughts move towards an annual seasonal right of passage to summer.

The  Royal LePage Snow to Surf Team Relay.

Now in it's 25th Anniversary Year, the race, set to run Sunday April 29th, brings together teams of 9 for the 7 leg race.

Course Layout

  • Alpine Skiing: Start near top Whiskey Jack Chairlift on Mount Washington. Skiers will run a set distance up the hill with ski boots on and then put on skis, thus causing a staggered start down the mountain. Approved C.S.A. helmets mandatory. (MUST BE A SKI HELMET, NO CYCLING OR OTHER HELMETS ALLOWED) Maximum ski length 215 cm. Helmets must be done up prior to commencing skiing portion. Failure to do up helmet properly will result in disqualification. TRADITIONAL NONMODIFIED ALPINE EQUIPMENT ONLY. No skiers will be allowed on lift without helmet.
  • Nordic Skiing:Skiers will follow a track set course approximately 8 km in length. In the event of snow shortages, the skier MUST be available to run a similar course.
  • Running: (SPONSORED BY EXTREME RUNNERS) Running: Two runners per team will split a 14+ km downhill run (6.8+ km and 6.4 km) on the Strathcona Parkway (aka The Snow to Surf Highway).
  • Mountain Bike: Riders are required to wear ASTM, ANSI or SNELL approved helmets, ride a mountain bike only and obey the rules of the road. The route will be flagged and is on logging roads and trails. Bike numbers (available at bike check) must be affixed to MTB.
  • Kayak: (SPONSORED BY COMOX VALLEY KAYAKS) The kayak leg starts at the Courtenay Fish and Game club and finishes at the campground on the Cumberland side of Comox Lake. (about 5 km) Required gear ncludes an approved sea kayak, a 2-ended paddle, a PFD, a bailing device and a 15-meter throw line. We are only allowing enclosed Sea Kayaks this year. They must be 20 inches or wider and no longer than 20 feet. No surf skis this year. Contact kayak@snowtosurf.com for more info.
  • Road Bike: Riders are required to wear ASTM, ANSI or SNELL approved helmets and obey the rules of the road. The cycling route will follow paved roads and highways. Bike numbers (available at cycle start) must be affixed to bike.

  • Canoe: Two canoeists will travel in a canoe using single blade paddles and wearing D.O.T. approved life jackets (mandatory) from Courtenay Air Park to Comox Marina Park. Maximum 18’6” canoe length. Course is approximately 5 km.

  • Masters - Minimum racer age 19, Minimum total age (all racers combined) 350 years
  • Masters Men - all racers male
    Masters Women - all racers female
    Masters Mixed - minimum 4 female racers
  • Grand masters - Minimum racer age 40, Minimum total age (all racers combined) 425 years
  • Grand Masters Men - all racers male
    Grand Masters women - all racers female
    Grand Masters mixed - minimum 4 female racers
  • Great Grand Masters - Minimum racer age 55 yrs, Minimum total age (all racers combined ) 500 years
    Open
  • Military - All racers must belong to CF Regular or Reserve A, B, or C
    Open - minimum racer age 19
    Masters - minimum total racer age (all racers combined) 350 years
  • The Junior Event - Minimum racer age 14, maximum racer age 18 as of December 31, 2007
    Junior Male - all racers male
    Junior Female - all racers female
    Junior Mixed - minimum 4 female racers
  • Missing Members - Minimum racer age 19
    OPEN - minimum of four racers

The race is a relay competition with a wrist band being passed from team member to team member. NOTE: The band must be visible at all times for course marshals recording team members passing through various checkpoints throughout the course. Failure to produce band during course of the race may result in team disqualification. Each team member will wear the team’s number. Failure to turn in wrist band at race finish will result in loss of complimentary beer tickets and possible disqualification.

The Comox Valley Snow to Surf Society reserves the right to make changes to the course or the rules if deemed necessary. It is the responsibility of all team members to familiarize themselves with the race course and the rules.

Registration Fees

Payments postmarked before March 29, 2007:
$333.00 per Adult team (all racers min age 19 by April 22, 2007)
$270.00 per Junior Event team (all racers min age 14/max 18 by December 31, 2007)
 
Payments postmarked after March 29, 2007:
$405.00 per Adult team (all racers min age 19 by April 22, 2007)
$342.00 per Junior Event team (all racers min age 14/max 18 by December 31, 2007)

Registration is limited to first 150 teams for adult categories, and the first 50 teams for the Junior categories, first come first served. Registration is not complete until payment is received.

ENTRY FEE INCLUDES: 9 race shirts, 9 entries into Pre-Race Social,
9 complimentary beer tickets per adult team, 9 beverage tickets per Junior team (at race finish).

All entries will be processed in order payments are received BY MAIL.

Team entries are processed in order payment is received. Registration limited to first 150 Adult teams and first 50 Junior Event teams, first come first served. Registration can be completed now through their online form.
